Oaks Court, Cheshire
The Brief
Clear Living were asked to create a link between an existing barn and a newly constructed extension. The aim was to let light into an otherwise dark area whilst controlling sunlight to ensure heat build up remained minimal. The client was seeking a frameless appearance, whilst making the glass follow the lines of the existing old barn, mixing the traditional with modern.
The Solution
The structural glass link was constructed from toughened and laminated glass to ensure strength and safety. The glass is ultra tough and enables the client to walk on it for cleaning purposes when required.
Glass was drawn to fit into the existing openings making every piece slightly out of square and shaped.
Solar control glass was used throughout with centrepane U-values of 1.1 W/Mk2 achieved utilising the coated glass and argon gas filled units. The coating utilised was supplied by Saint Gobain via their Coolite SKN174 brand, and was manufactured at the HansenGlss plant in liverpool.
The Result
Clear Lving managed to meet the clients expectations and helped to create a stunning living area for the whole family. The contemporary style blends beautifully with the existing barns, and the client is now considering adding further structural glass elsewhre on the building.
